The Real Egyptians: Black Kings, Biblical Ties, and the Whitewashing of Kemet

"History is written by the conquerors—but the truth is etched into the bones of the land.”

For centuries, the image of ancient Egypt has been hijacked, whitewashed, and distorted. What was once an African powerhouse—a cradle of Black brilliance—has been repackaged as a land of tanned Europeans in linen skirts. But facts don’t care about colonial comfort zones. Egypt, or Kemet, was a Black civilization, and the Bible backs it up.

Let’s peel back the lies and reclaim the truth.

Kemet: Land of the Black

First off, the name "Kemet" literally translates to "Black Land." Scholars argue whether this refers to the rich, dark soil of the Nile Valley or the people themselves—but both make sense, and both are African.

Evidence of Black African origins:

Egypt is in Africa. Northern Africa, yes—but still Africa.

Greek eyewitnesses: Herodotus (5th century BCE) described Egyptians as having “dark skin and woolly hair.”

Art and Statues: The earliest depictions of pharaohs and commoners alike show full lips, broad noses, and dark skin tones.

Mummies and DNA: Older mummies show clear Sub-Saharan African traits—not the modern light-skinned Arab/Eurasian features seen in North Africa today (a result of later invasions).

“We are the sons of the land of burnt faces.” — Ancient Egyptian proverb

Egypt in the Bible: The African Giant

Egypt plays a major role in Scripture, and not once is it presented as a European power. In fact, the Egyptians are depicted as close enough to Hebrews in appearance that they’re often mistaken for one another.

Moses Looked Egyptian (Exodus 2:19) When Moses fled Egypt and came to Midian, the locals said:

“An Egyptian delivered us…”

If Moses looked white, that wouldn’t make sense. He passed as native.

Joseph’s Children Were Half Egyptian (Genesis 41:45, 50–52) Joseph married Asenath, an Egyptian woman. Their sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, became two of the 12 tribes of Israel. That means African blood runs through the Israelite line.

Yahusha (Jesus) Hid in Egypt (Matthew 2:13–15) Mary and Joseph took baby Yahusha to Egypt to hide from Herod. Why Egypt? Because He’d blend in. You don’t hide a brown baby in Scandinavia.

Israelites Frequently Compared to Ethiopians (Amos 9:7)

“Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel?”

Yah was clearly pointing to shared ethnicity or appearance.

Whitewashing: The Greatest Heist in History

Let’s talk about why Egypt was whitewashed.

Colonial powers couldn’t handle the truth that the pinnacle of ancient wisdom, science, and architecture came from Black people. So, when Napoleon’s forces arrived in the 1700s, they didn’t just take statues—they broke off noses, erased features, and rewrote history.

The strategy:

Destroy the original image.

Replace it with a European likeness.

Teach it in textbooks.

Cast it in movies.

Normalize the lie.

We’ve been eating stale crackers thinking it’s soul food. But it’s time to cook with the original recipe again.

The Cleopatra Cop-Out

Let’s get this straight: Yes, Cleopatra VII (the “famous one”) was Greek. She was part of the Ptolemaic dynasty, a Greek family that ruled after Alexander the Great conquered Egypt in 332 BCE.

BUT:

That was after over 2,000 years of Black Egyptian rule.

Cleopatra didn’t build the pyramids, write the Book of the Dead, or start the dynasties. She inherited a legacy.

Her mother’s identity is debated—she may have had Egyptian or African ancestry.

Cleopatra learned the language and embraced Egyptian religion and culture—but she wasn’t the origin.

Saying “Cleopatra was Greek, so Egyptians weren’t Black” is like saying America is British because George Washington had tea once.

Don't confuse the colonizer with the creator.

The Takeaway: Reclaim the Crown

Kemet was Black. Egypt was African. The Bible confirms it, and archaeology agrees.

We’re not just talking about reclaiming statues—we’re talking about reclaiming identity. If you’ve been taught that African history started with slavery, let Egypt remind you: you were royalty long before chains.

Don’t let history lie to you. Speak the truth. Live it. Teach it. The throne was never empty—it was stolen.

Final Scriptures for Meditation:

“Princes shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall soon stretch out her hands unto God.” — Psalm 68:31

“Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me?” — Amos 9:7

“Out of Egypt I called my son.” — Matthew 2:15
